Fractures of the Distal Phalanx in 72 Racehorses: 1990-2001
نویسنده
چکیده
Fractures of the equine distal phalanx may be a form of stress-related bone injury much like other stress fractures in the racehorse. Early scintigraphic examination of racehorses with palmar foot pain may identify stress-related bone injury before fracture and allow corrective shoeing to be instituted. These fractures most commonly occur in the lateral aspect of the left forelimb and the medial aspect in the right forelimb. Despite the fact that this injury can lead to osteoarthritis of the distal interphalangeal joint, there is a favorable prognosis for return to racing. Simultaneous Dorsal Base Fracture and FDP Avulsion of Distal Phalanx of the Little Finger
Avulsion injury of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) with concomitant fracture of the distal phalanx dorsal base is uncommon. Simultaneous avulsion fractures of the insertion of this tendon associated with rupture of the tendon from the bony fragment and combination with dorsal base fracture is very rare and also complicated. A 36- year- old man fell and injured his right little finger. FDP ...
متن کاملRadiographic measurements of front feet of the sound Akhal-Teke horses
The Akhal-Teke is an ancient horse originat-ing from Asia where it was used by nomadic tribes and used as a warhorse. Lameness examinations require proper interpretation of clinical and radiographic findings. Therefore, understanding of normal radiographic findings of the foot is necessary. Although the radiographic appearance of the normal foot must be understood to recognize abnormalities ...
متن کاملQualitative and quantitative documentation of the racing performance of 461 Thoroughbred racehorses after arthroscopic removal of dorsoproximal first phalanx osteochondral fractures (1986-1995).
The purpose of this study was to examine the longevity of postoperative careers and quality of performance of 461 Thoroughbred racehorses after arthroscopic removal of dorsoproximal first phalanx (P1) osteochondral fractures. Six hundred and 59 dorsoproximal P1 chip fractures were removed arthroscopically from 574 joints in 461 horses presented for lameness or decreased performance attributed t...
متن کاملIsolated Bilateral Triphalangeal Thumb with Delta Phalanx: A Case Report
Triphalangeal thumb is characterized by the interposition of an extra-phalanx between two normal ones. In this article the authors present the case of a 24-year-old man with bilateral triphalangeal thumb of opposable type, without any other associated anomaly or genetic syndrome. The patient had triangular delta extra-phalanxes that caused ulnar deviation of both thumbs. Surgical procedure for ...

Hand metastasis accounts for approximately 0.1 percent of all metastatic osseous malignancies. The lung, breast and kidney are the most common primary sources of these metastatic lesions.A rare case of retroperitoneal alveolar soft part sarcoma metastasizing to the distal phalanx of the second finger of the right hand is presented here. The patient underwent complete DIP amputation of the affec...
